Issue with Windows XP/7

Keeping it brief;

My laptop came with Windows 7 pre-installed and a product key sticker under the computer.

I disliked Windows 7 because it didn't work with a game I was playing and re-installed the computer with Windows XP Pro SP3.

Now however Windows XP grace period has expired and I need to enter a valid product key in order to log onto my computer.

Now since I don't play the game anymore I figured I want to use Windows 7 again. Now I wonder, HOW can I upgrade to Windows 7, using my valid product key?

Since I can't even log onto the computer anymore and I don't have Windows 7 in physical format.

Nor can I find a product key which activated my Windows XP ;/

What is make/model of your notebook? Probably it may have come with 'Recovery Partition' as well; which you can use to restore your system to factory defaults (i.e. OS and all etc.).
