Issues with reading a pen drive in Windows XP

Hi,
I have 3 usb ports in my laptop. Till last week, I was able to access pen drives using any of the port. Today, when I insert a pen drive in any port, first, my anti-virus (Kaspersky) asks for scan or skip scan, and simultaneously system shows a window stating "There was a problem installing this hardware USB Mass Storage Device.."
I click finish and this repeats until I remove the pen drive from the port.
I tested whether my port is working fine and attached a mouse, it works fine.

I have windows XP with all service pack updates installed.

Please help in resolving this.

Uninstall "USB Mass Storage Device" from the device manager, then do "Scan for new Hardware" from the action menu. This should re-install the correct drivers. NO 3rd party drivers needed, they come with windows
