ITunes and WMP 12 - Windows 7

Having looked around the web for a while I can't seem to find anyone else with this problem.

I have a fresh install of Windows 7 on my computer. However, when I try to open Windows Media Player, iTunes opens itself, or if it's already open maximizes.

It doesn't matter whether I do it through 'Open With..' or the .exe in the root file. It does the same thing.

I've tried uninstalling iTunes then running it - I get an error along the lines of "wmplayer.exe cannot be found". Even though I'm clicking wmplayer.exe from the install directory. Tried reinstalling WMP without iTunes installed and still no joy.

Also fixed all file associations so it's not that, seeing as it does it when you're trying to open WMP by itself anyway.

Starting to really frustrate me!
Anyone got any ideas?

Maybe you've set iTunes to be the default Media Player. Try disabling it in the preferences.

No I've already checked/tried that. It's not to do with file associations. It's when I click wmplayer.exe iTunes opens - completely bizarre.
