iTunes sync problem

I recently got a new iPod 5th generation. It syncs fine but the only problem i am having I cant change any settings in itunes of the ipod every time i try i get a message saying " The iPod "xxx" cannot be synced the required disk can not be found" I understand that because as soon i connect it, it syncs and then disconnects immediately the icon still appears on itunes but not in windows explorer. But how do i fix it?

See if you can "restore" the iPod to factory fresh, then add your music, pictures and videos
