Jolla, makers of the budding Sailfish OS, are one step closer to releasing their first-ever tablet. The Finnish device maker is now accepting pre-orders for the aptly-named Jolla Tablet but there are a few restrictions prospective buyers need to be aware of.

Rather than develop the tablet in complete secrecy, Jolla opted to go the crowdfunding route. The company launched an Indiegogo campaign for the Jolla Tablet late last year with a goal of raising $380,000. When the smoke cleared, 21,569 backers pledged a total of $2,556,163, making it the most funded Indiegogo campaign ever in Asia and Europe.

The Jolla Tablet features a 7.85-inch IPS multitouch display operating at a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 (330 pixels per inch) that’s powered by a 64-bit quad-core Intel SoC clocked at 1.8GHz alongside 2GB of RAM. There’s also a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera that’s capable of recording 1080p video and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter for video calls.

The slate is offered in two configurations with your choice of 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, both expandable via micro-SD card. A 4,450mAh battery supplies juice when away from a charger.

The Jolla Tablet runs Sailfish OS 2.0 which the company says features a new and visually refreshed user interface, improved Android application compatibility, smoother transitions throughout the OS and overall improved stability and performance.

Jolla is only accepting pre-orders in a limited number of regions including all EU countries, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Norway, Russia, Switzerland and the US. Pricing will vary slightly by country although on average, you can expect to pay around $300 for the 32GB variant and $340 for the more capacious 64GB option.

There’s a limited batch available for pre-order so if you want one, you’d better act now.

Would like bigger but price and parts seems to meet better than most others so have to take a look at this. Shame they don't have shop or anything, don't like giving money before hand. If it's pay as you get it then I'm in.
