Jumper problems, or motherboard?

okay i've had a new computer setup for the last month or so. the only old parts im still using is the case, power supply, and the DVD drives.

the problem is that while playing on a beta game i suffered a crash to the desktop, sent in the windows survey, then started the game back up. while loading my whole computer just went dead. clicking the power button did nothing.

looking futher into it i noticed the onbaord ethernet lights still had power so i figured it prob. wasnt the power supply but didnt rule it out as a possiblity. next i thought it could be the jumpers since the case was old or maybe the new motherboard just had bad jumpers.

is there a way to test the jumpers without using the case ones? think my friend mentioned satrting his computer up with a screwdriver before.

any ideas?

also a quick note i still get a lil juice from the PSU. turned the fans on for a quick second before cutting out. on another try it turned a monitor on then dead again. perhaps it is just the death of another PSU.
