Keyboard driver corrupted xp

i have a problem with my xp installation i believe when i start up with both ps2 keyboard and mouse the keyboard works fine until the boot finishes then as soon as you use a key the mouse freezes up and wont work until you unplug the keyboard and restart
and you cant use any combination of keyboard and mouse usb keyboard and ps2 mouse or any combination of the above
device manager shows keyboard driver corrupt but cant install cant install a new driver

can anyone help me with this problem i would really appreciate it ive read a few posts that are simalar but havent found the answer any where yet

Do a file repair using sfc /scannow command.
