Has the recent, publicised increase in embeded spyware in consumer software affected buying and usage of these products?

what about, has there always been spyware in software but is it that only now that companies have publicised the fact that theres spyware in their products?

refer to microsoft nd its error reporting and the fact that you really dont know what info its sending etcetec
and battle field 2142 (or what ever) with its spyware that constantly reports back to he company!
