Laptop display problem

hello, I wonder if someone more knowledgeable than myself might be able to enlighten me on a problem with my msi laptop?
i have a gx 700 that is stock except for a ram upgrade to crucial matched, 4GB. video card is an 8600m gt, 512mb, processor is 2.4 ghz core 2 duo. under normal usage(surfing, text editing) the laptop performs fine. if I try to run a graphics intensive program it runs for about ten seconds and then black screen. this includes 3D mark 05, windows experience index, ms flight sim x, etc. when it goes to black screen i can still hear audio, the hd is still active but i have to shut it down to reset the display to be able to work again. this happens at all resolutions. Bios is up to date, drivers seem to work fine.
it has passed the passmark burnin test pro 6.0, no issues. symantec corporate av is up to date, machine is clean.
i have applied arctic silver 5 to both the cpu and gpu and removed all the dust. runs nice and cool. any thoughts?

Since when it started? You've been able to use before in 3D without a problem? What driver version?
Use a GPU temperature monitoring tool with logging enabled, post the results. Anyway, it seems like a faulty GPU.
