Laptop does not keep the correct time

  1. Every time I turn on the laptop the time is wrong, I reset the time correctly but after being shutdown for a while, when I turn it back on the time is off again. I assume it is probably the nickel sized battery on the motherboard. If I remove it to replace it with a new one how will it affect the laptop, does removing that battery have any effect on how the laptop it starts and operates, thanks.

Replacing the CMOS battery won't harm the laptop. A new battery is all that may be needed, but you will have to get into the bios and check that all the settings are the way you want them, or set them to defaults
