Turned on my Asus netbook and just keeps restarting, so it wont get any further than the windows loading screen.

has been working fine for at least a year and have made no changes to it.

Also will not let me go into safe mode, so cannot do anything!

pressed f2 and tried rebooting, this made no change..

not sure what to do.. dont know a huge amount about computers!

any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers

Alex

We even don't know what Windows version we're dealing here with.
Do you have a reason to believe, your computer may be infected?

sorry about the lack of information

its windows XP

Yes i think it may have had an infection as i ran a virus checker and spyware checker earlier today when it was working and it found some infections. it said it had removed them, but im guessing it is linked to that.

I dont remember what the infection was called as i wasn't paying much attention at the time. obviously i should have done!

ok sorry didn't make tht clear, it was working fine this morning, and that was when i did the scans. I then turned it off and went out for the day. and when i came home and tried to turn it back on, that's when the problem started.

OK. Clear :)

Let's see, if we can look at your computer booting from an external source.

Please download OTLPE (filesize 120,9 MB)

  • When downloaded double click on OTLPENet.exe and make sure there is a blank CD in your CD drive. This will automatically create a bootable CD.
  • Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
    • Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
  • Your system should now display a REATOGO-X-PE desktop.
  • Depending on your type of internet connection, you should be able to get online as well so you can access this topic more easily.
  • Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
  • Ensure the box "Automatically Load All Remaining Users" is checked and press OK
  • OTL should now start.
  • Press Run Scan to start the scan.
  • When finished, the file will be saved in drive C:\OTL.txt
  • Copy this file to your USB drive if you do not have internet connection on this system
  • Please post the contents of the OTL.txt file in your reply.
