Laptop keyboard not working

I own a gateway laptop and the keyboard is not working,the only letters that show are just above the spacebar. Any ideas what might be the cause?

Was any liquid spilled on the keyboard? Did it suddenly stop working, or did you shut it off one day and it stopped working on the next power up?
