Laptop Lag

    The problem-every second or so, there is a nice burst of lag especially affecting the mouse...i tried using different mice...no sucess. If im in basically any application, it lags ALOT, especially in like games(battlefield 1942-yes my computer IS that slow
    -_-) if anyone could help me with this problem, which started happening after i got a virus and i had to get the laptop wiped and reinstalled...
    Specs: XP Home SP3
    Intel duo core t5500-1.66 GHz
    ram-980 MHz, 1.5 GB
    40 GB HD

    Ive tried defragging the HD 3 times and it seemed like the first time i had it working(like a week ago) then i defragged it 2 times today...its really ticking me off

    YAY its SNOWING! haha that was random :p
