Laptop to Tv

hi i have an Inspiron 1000, I just bought a VGA to S-video converter, and i hooked it up so i have a S-video wire running from my Laptop to my Tv, but i can't get a signal. I can't figure out how to get anything to show up on my tv, so any help would be appreciated. THanks

thanks, but that didn't really help, i know how to hook it up, but i'm just trying to figure out why it won't work. I have the cables, my laptop didn't come with an S-video out so i bought a vga converter so i don't know if that's the problem, but i know what to do in the display part, yet i can't get anything to show up on my tv.

What built in graphics does your laptop have and what display driver are you using??
