Laptop turns-off after 3 min when runs on battery

My sony vaio laptop turns-off automatically when runs on battery. If it is on main power, no issue. Please suggest me whether its happening due to bad battery.

I suggest it's due to a bad battery.

Bad battery or bad connectors... take a close look at the connectors where they touch the battery components... Use a pencil eraser to rub up the best contact.

Every laptop - battery combination has some battery failures even when new... expect this. Keep receipts for returning the defective ones.

I suggest you go into your power options , Start>Control Panel>Power Options & check out your settings.
I'm betting its not the battery.
