Suspicious!? Here I'm trying to help you and you give me this? I even said, "please." I'm done.
This was definitely an over-dramatic reaction. As mailpup is a TechSpot Evangelist
I would have figured he'd have more patience, if of course, he has experience helping people before, he should understand the suspicion and cautiousness of newcomers.
However, redwoo, this is necessary information which you should have provided in your post first off.
redwoo, it should run Windows Vista. If possible try a version of Windows XP, if that doesnt work. Try Ubuntu, its free, and there is a huge community which will help you out with everything you need. Free OpenOffice solutions for documents, and other tons of free software that the Ubuntu community offers.
Do you know how to properly set the BIOS to boot from a windows installation CD? You may have additional difficulties if its a SATA drive, and if so you can set the BIOS to use Native IDE so you shouldnt need to load additional drivers if Vista doesnt happen to have them.
Post or PM me for additional help if you still need it.
