Latest Gran Turismo 7 patch relies more on microtransactions, and gamers are pissed

This is EXACTLY the reason I'm playing single player non-MTX infested games.
Cyberpunk, Witcher, Death Stranding. I'll start playing Dark Souls and Elden Ring.
And I'm positive now that I'm not getting a Playstation now or ever.
Always-online single player? MTX? in a Sony single-player car driving game? You effin' kidding me?!
Yeah. Sounds like Diablo IV. Another game I'm not touching with a 10 foot pole, following the "success" of Warcraft III: Reforged.
The only message these companies (EA, Blizzard, Ubisoft, Sony, Microsoft etc) understand is MONEY.
The only power we TRULY have is called "the wallet power". Not buying their games, their consoles, not paying for the games pre-release are all powerful deterents for these greedy a-holes.
You want my money? Sure. Just promise me the game won't have ANY sort of MTX. Or, if you REALLY need MTX, make the game free.
Let's see them when most of the players (like me) stop paying for AAA and start buying stuff like HackNet, Kingdom Come Deliverance, or Settlement Survivor.

It is a **** move, but I will keep playing gt7 as this is simply excellent game. And there is no real need to getting all the cars right away - it is fun playing already owned wehicles, especially with real people in online races. This work for me, and I know we won't run from MT anymore.
Problem is what whoulc be part of MT. It would be either in-game cash, or separate cars. But to make cars worth the buy, they would have to be better than standard line-up. With that, I'd rather have all cars available and grind for those I want to drive, than having to buy a DLC. Knowing life, DLC will come nevertheless.
Still, with consumers happily paying for GaaS, Frotnite skins, MT, DLC, without thinking 2nd time about real value or ownership, I'm not surprised with Polyphony approach.

Microtransactions and elevated wait times should not be part of single player games, period. If you can put up with the psycological pressure, great, but that doesnt change what sony did here.
Sorry I call bs many of the reviewers I've watched are totally pissed about Sony pulling this stuff and have went back and added addendums and such where they can.

Ultimately their livelihood does depend on certain algorithmic results to fall into place at the right time so they tend to be forced to not make a full proper review but I'm seeing many of the ones I follow starting to use the therm "review in progress" and ABSOLUTELY leaving themselves open to going back an changing anything they need to before finalizing.
Yeah get back to me when they start docking games points en masse instead of publishing an outrage edit then moving on.
I don't understand why it ever got good reviews - its exactly the same game as GT Sport just made a bit more pretty. Same tracks, same presentation and same **** physics... The hype train on this title has gone into overdrive.
Fans were horny over a single player GT coming back, and instead got sport with more microtransactiosn and no multiplayer. The monkey's paw curles.
They don't "make" anybody do anything.

Gamers keep lining up for the abuse of microtransactions, preorders, broken servers, etc.

Publishers are going to push the limits as long as gullible fanboys keep pouring money into their pockets.
But but but I gotta CONSOOM!

They make you pay 100 dollars for a triple A game, that sometimes comes broken needing patches from day one... Or even worst, some features ask you to buy the "Godly Platinum Full Bundle" in pre sale, that costs 100% more... Then you get a overpriced game, if we be luck enough it won't be broken like many triple A littles are releasing nowadays... Then they release an half-*ssed DLC/Season pass so you can access a little bit more of content... Meanwhile the game breaking bugs may still be there.

Then they "infect" it choke full of microtransactions... Sure you can do some work to improve the life time of your game and make it more relevant for more time, but developers are loosing the grip of it and breaking the game...

Want to go heavy on microtransaction, please, make the entry point low (like 30 bucks I can understand...) or make it free... Don't kill your own game with stupid "design" decisions. Skyrim still relevant because it was a good game... If it had microtransactions it would had died after 5 years, max.

Publishers don't want you playing the same game more than a year. They want to sell you new games instead.

In a world where *****s pay millions for meaningless digital tokens it is hardly surprising that there are fools who will happily pay to avoid the grind in games. If the games companies can make their profits this way instead of pushing the game prices even higher then I'm all for it. Sad that they've made the grind a bit more extensive, but it is just more driving and that is what this game is really about.

Here's a strange fact. The online requirement happened because of FIA Accreditation. FIA requires always online to prevent any sort of tampering of lap times. Also add that used car pricing seems to be based on real life used car pricing. So basically we could blame gt7 fallout on the FIA,

I just wanted to mention it does have multiplayer, but you have to "earn" it. Jump through some hoops for hours and multi will unlock.

It should also be mentioned that another thing you get is a slow moving bore fest that has become more and more associated with PS first party games.
They should have a video of Norman Reedus with a huge backpack hop in to each car before every race.

I have enjoyed the game. But they are really pushing for people to buy in game currency to buy cars and stuff. The legendary cars cost over $4 million to... So I don't know.... kinda of getting turned off as I play more and more.

Motorsport Acreditation? For a video game?

No, the blame falls on Sony using such accreditation for a video game. This isnt motorsport. And judging form a google search, it hasnt stopped impossible times from appearing either.

Just my opinion of course, but if Poly\Sony want to revitalize the Gran Turismo series, they should completely remake GT3 A-Spec into a new game. It was a masterpiece.

EDIT -

GT3 A-spec was 21 years ago, so anyone not familiar:

I cant take a side,

sony/polyphony are terrible for mangling a 60-70 dollar game like this.

gamers are terrible for buying so many microtransactions over the years that this is just normal now.

Even if they do drop the credits and make the cars cheaper for real world purchases gamers still lose because theres an option to burn more money in a FULL PRICED GAME.

if the world was right no one would spend a dime on those cars and show polyphony they done messed up but that wont happen, it hasnt and never will.

Game "journalists" are pozzed soybois.
This is the third gay-bashing post I've seen on this site within 24 hours. Can't people think of some other way to express their discontent? Attacking a minority group that is not responsible for these things is not the solution.

And, before you cite freedom of speech consider that my educational and clever response to one of those posts was deleted within minutes, even though it didn't attack a group of people for how they were born.

Just to give a perspective, in MS Flight Sim, which costs full AAA price, there are planes which are available only if you pay extra real money. There is no car in gt7 you can't get by in-game money. Sure, limiting earnings is not a good move, but this isn't anything new.

Cope and seethe, Redditor.

No, because a modern remaster would have all the issues that GT7 has.

If sony wants to revitalize GT then they need to dump the attrocious always online BS, the insane microtransactions, and just make a good game. But that wouldnt let them print hundreds of millions from whales who just cant stop consooming their favorite product.

Well, so much for that game. They said that it would be the game that made gamers "fall in love again" with Gran Turismo.

I wanted to believe it but these days, well, I'm getting to be kinda cynical and things like this are why.

I would put it more simply. Even if FIA accreditation is a thing, the time trials can be lumped into the Sport mode. They can even rename the FIA mode, where everything that can be compared between players be in the online-only mode. Since a racing game is about speed not number of cars you own, even if someone hack the single player, their record won't count so long as they didn't do it in the FIA specific time trials/races. And GT Sport has special time trial mode that pops up every few months, so is not without precedent anyway.

I feel the whole earning thing is overblown, I feel that is silly the outrage is more so than the always online thing. Because the always online thing caused severe outrage that limited the game's content, you are reliant on a connection in a game with deep single player content and that is not right. Whereas the cars and reward.... ehhh, I am less enraged about because I am the stage of life where I play as much as I can, and often that is not about finishing or collecting everything; is not even on my radar.

I haven't seen that many of those cars that are worth 20 mil each closely apart from one of those stupid Vision GT Citroen (ie a fake car), but I would say so long as the Gr4, Gr3, Gr2 and Gr1 cars, the common ones for Sport Mode, are mainly in the region of 1 mil-ish or lower, then is less of an issue. The reason is that certain cars are better at certain tracks/race type, making them inaccessible due to cost will hinder the more casual GT7 players (but active sim racers) a lot, and therefore the complaints are merited. Whereas if 20 mil cars are essentially just weird special cars for the sake of collection rather than the competitive scene, I feel people are just being overly precious. A lot of the argument against MTX and prize change I feel relies on those 20 mil cars to be essential for the multiplayer experience or essential in the core of the game.

Would the game suffer a lot without those cars? Unlikely, those Vision GT cars are stupid and I hate them anyway. And, is not as though those 20 mil cars are attainable easily even without the nerf. If, and is definitely strong if, those cars aren't the core of the multiplayer, then to me, they have even less impact to me than cosmetics upgrade.
