Left PC on, it loaded something, now hardware found

  1. Last night I was on the phone for a while while my pc was just running nearby. I heard it start to load something, and then noticed that a found new hardware icon came up.

    Wants me to install: CD-R /RW 24X10 P.JJ

the thing is I NEVER use the CD drives because they've been mostly unresponsive ever since I've had the system (few years, got it from my brother). This was random.

And it made it so it takes a long time for my computer to shut down when I prompt it to, and it takes a REALLY long time to boot up now.

At boot up, the same new hardware icon comes up.

Computer newb here, so any advice is appreciated! Thanks.

    Hi

the PC for some reason is seeing the cd drive as a new device and wants to install it,

let it install it, then you wont get bothered by it again.

Or take the side of the PC off, find the big grey lead that goes into the CD drive unit and unplug it.

WIndows will then ignore it and wont try to load it.

    regards

windows update will often look for missing or new drivers. It might have found one for your drive. Let it install and see if that helps.
