Lenovo has taken the wraps off its IdeaTab S2 tablet for the global market. The IdeaTab S2 is the international version of the LePad S2010 that was announced for China back in November. The tablet will ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The IdeaTab S2 measures a mere 8.69mm (0.34in) thick, and weighs only 580g (1.27lbs), so it is competitive in size and weight with the Apple iPad 2 and Asus Transformer Prime. Taking another page from the Transformer Prime's playbook, Lenovo will offer a keyboard docking station for the IdeaTab S2 that adds a full QWERTY keyboard, 2 USB ports, an SD card reader, and a battery that extends the S2's life out to 20 hours.

The IdeaTab S2 features a 10.1-inch, 1280 x 800 pixel IPS display and is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor paired with 1GB of DDR2 RAM. Lenovo will offer versions of the IdeaTab S2 with three storage capacities: 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB. The IdeaTab S2 has both a 1.3 megapixel front camera for video chatting as well as a 5 megapixel rear camera with autofocus and an LED flash.

Along the sides of the S2 are a 17-pin docking connector, a microSD memory card slot, a micro-HDMI port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A 3G-equipped version of the tablet will also offer a SIM card slot.

Lenovo has installed Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the IdeaTab S2 complete with its own "Mondrian" user interface, and the S2 has access to Lenovo's own App Shop and the Android Market. The IdeaTab S2 is currently available in China and is expected to be released worldwide at a later date. Global pricing information has not yet been announced.
