Lite-On LTR-24102B Trouble Shoot!!

Hello to everyone out there, I'm new to the forums so if I break any rules or anything, please be nice. :p

Well, I'm having a little problem with my CD-RW drive...

I'm running on Windows XP Home Edition
512RAM
AMD Athlon 1.53Ghz

My problem.. I would insert a disk, doesn't matter what it is, it would stay in the drive for about... 30seconds and just pop back out like it couldn't read it.

I wouldn't get an error or anything.. On top of that, I just formatted my computer 4 days ago, I formatted because of this reason and I guess it didn't help. I tried uninstalling the driver from Device Manager and installing it back, no luck.

Inside Device Manager, I do not see a "?" or an "!" at all.. So, if someone can please reply ASAP it would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks.

Does it do the same while not in Windows? You could try updating the drive firmware and cleaning it.

You update the firmware by downloading a small program from the Lite-On website. You clean the drive by using a CD-ROM drive cleaning disc or just opening it up and using some cotton+alcohol on the lens.

this was the solution for me-
1) flash new firmware to the drive (5s5a)
after i did that I could read cd's
2) installed a newer cd burning software
