Log on denial at "Welcome" screen

  1. After shutting down the computer system for a two-week travel requirement, I am unable to get past the "Welcome" screen where my log on icon waits to be clicked. When I click the icon, the message reads, "Loading your personal settings" and the immediately changes to, "Saving your settings..." This action forms an endless loop. Also happens when I try to log on as a guest.

    Using Windows XP Home Edition
I will be thankful for any suggestions.

Hi, Linz, for what is worth I have a pc here showing exactly the same symptoms, even when booting into safe mode and I am having a problem finding a solution also.

Thanks for posting a reply. I am purchasing a "fix-it" disk that is supposed to work per their technician. I will let you know if it takes care of the problem.
Please keep me informed if you encounter any success.
