Well I finally got XP loaded on a machine that I am using for testing. It was up and running, I was on the web researching, so I know it was working. Next time I turned it on I got an error saying OS not found on a black screen. I check the specs and though it may have ran slow it was still capable of handling XP How is it there one day gone the next? Thanks for any info

Sounds odd. BIOS looking in the correct place for the OS? As in you don't have it set up to only boot off a cd or floppy right?

Got a live linux cd you can boot from to ensure the data is still on the drive? Could run a fixboot or fixmbr from the recovery console after booting off the XP disk probably.

sng is right, although usually windows when installed will set the bios on this setting already, unless its a really old pc.
