Macbook keyboard/trackpad issues

    I am working on a macbook and the keyboard will not type any letters, the numbers along the top are fine but no letters, at the same time the trackpad is playing up, if I click on something in the dock it doesn't open it up but comes up with a short menu including open.
    If I connect a usb keyboard that works fine and strangely the trackpad also starts working fine.
    Any suggestions?

    I found this thread which has several suggestions. Easiest one to check is make sure Mouse Keys is OFF in the Universal Access system panel. (Apple Menu -> System Prefs -> Universal Access -> Mouse and Trackpad tab)
