Inactive Malware - can start XP but after a while screen goes black

Can open Windows XP, I know that computer is infected when I start scan with Malwarebytes but alas after a quarter of an hour screen goes completely blank and so scan does not finish and I cannot erase the malware and all the bad infected files - would greate appreciate ideas and help. Thank you
