Malwarebytes, makers of the popular anti-malware application by the same name, has added another powerful tool to its arsenal. The company on Monday announced the acquisition of Junkware Removal Tool, a security program that scans for and removes adware, spyware and toolbars. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Junkware Removal Tool owner and developer Filipos Mouliatis will also be joining Malwarebytes, working out of its Houston office.

Mouliatis said Malwarebytes is a highly respected anti-malware and anti-exploit company that he’s been familiar with for years. He added that he was excited to hear about the possibility of working together and looks forward to helping further develop software to destroy potentially unwanted programs (PUPs).

Malwarebytes founder and CEO Marcin Kleczynski said PUPs are a growing problem and the Junkware Removal Tool is a fantastic addition to strengthen his company’s ability to address them. Mouliatis’ creativity and ingenuity, he continued, are great additions to the Malwarebytes team.

Junkware Removal Tool is consistently ranked in the top 10 downloaded Windows apps across multiple sites, the company said. It has been downloaded from BleepingComputer more than four million times.

Malwarebytes said it will integrate the tool’s definitions and tactics into its existing application, a process that’ll take place over the next few months. The standalone Junkware Removal Tool will remain intact for those that want to continue to use it in this capacity, the company said.

*raises fist of fury* time for the program to acquire a trashy GUI so they can charge money for it. The JRT is nice because its standalone app that doesn't need to be installed to run. That is not the case with MBAM (though it used to be before they got acquired them selves).

Reading comprehension is your friend. If you note, they are leaving the standalone version of JRT alone and continuing to improve it without integrating it. So you will have the best of both worlds, the tech of JRT integrated into Malwarebytes, and the continued standalone JRT. Your grumbling sounds like a whole bunch of nothing.

Clearly you don't know anything about Malwarebytes... They actually have a protable verison that doesn't require install..... Knowing before talking is key for success.

MBAM is the best, portable or not, I love it. JRT...never used it. This news can only make both the better
