To everyone saying that the US had no right to take down Megaupload, Megaupload had illegal content stored in the state of Virginia, and it took them two years to figure this out, US has no right to control sites outside of the US, so as long as filehosting sites stay out of the US, they'll be fine.

The Internet is a worldwide connection, location is irrelevant. If regulations cannot be agreed upon worldwide (at least majority rule), they should not be enforced. One country standing out alone from the rest is quite possibly fighting a loosing battle.
  3. This pretty much comes down to them making an enormous sum of money while promoting the uploading of copyrighted material. They have complied with the government with a tool to help take down copyrighted material but that tool was so inefficient at doing so that it was apparent that they had no intention of actually aiding in taking down copyrighted material. They say that it is a storage bin for files but the files disappear after so many days if the content isn't downloaded by others. It comes down to their business model being so blatantly pro pirating that they have been the easiest target so far. After reading the indictment I'm pretty sure these guys are gonna go down pretty hard. It will probably serve as precedent in a ton of other future cases. This will be one to watch for sure. While I was once on board with pirating because of how f-ed up the entertainment industry has been. They have just about given us what we really wanted in the first place; digital copies of movies and songs, streaming rentals and being able to purchase individual songs instead of buying a whole album for 20 bucks with one song that you might like. Its time now that we just start looking at pirating for what it is. Stealing. Thats a pretty unpopular view, but really thats what its now come down to. It used to be that the industry didnt offer the content that we wanted, how we wanted it. But its here now and half the price it used to be. Thats what we wanted and we finally got it. Continuing to pirate is just plain illegal and greedy. Sorry but thats the hard truth.
