Hi all!
I'm trying to install a GeForce FX5500 AGP graphics card and in Device Manager I get a code 12 "this device cannot find enough free resources that it can use". As a result the screen resolution and colour depth are low.
When I boot up in safe mode Device Mananger allows me to see that the conflict is with "memory range D0000000-E7FFFFFF not available". This is because the AMD 751 Processor to AGP Controller has also been assigned a chunk of this memory.
I have been trying to solve this problem by manually re-assigning the resources but I can't uncheck the "Use automatic settings" box on the resources tab.
I have tried changing the PnP settings in the BIOS to see if this makes any difference but it doesn't.
I.e. I have tested every combination for PnP OS (No/Yes) and Resources Controlled By (Auto/Manual) and this doesn't help me uncheck the box.
Other things I've tried are:
Signing is as an administrator.
Re-installing the Graphics card with the latest drivers.
Resetting the ESCD and DMI using the BIOS.
Is there another way to re-assign the resources or solve the conflict?
computer's spec is:
gigabyte GA-7IX
AMD athlon 550
640 MB RAM
Win XP Pro SP2
