Memory upgrade failed

i bought some used memory from ebay recently. i purchased 2 used gb ddr ram sticks pc3200 for my old asus a7n8x delux. the original 512 stick works fine. ram voltage set at 2.6
with an athlon xp 2500 chip

i dont have another computer to test the ram.

one of the sticks will not allow the computer to boot up. i get the beep but the monitor wont turn on and i get no testing....just a black screen......with a voice from the internal speaker that says my memory test failed.

the other one will do the memory test but will not go past the test screen....

i reset the cmso to see if that would change anything, but it did not. i know asus a7n8x likes certain memory and they have a list......my 512 works fine......its not on the list

Most memory issues are related to defective or incompatible RAM. If you have narrowed it down to that chip and not a defective RAM slot, then its probably the chip.

i had a dell dimension 4600 which specs say can run pc3200. i tested it in that and had the same problems

RTFM regarding ram. Mobos can be very picky.
