Microsoft exec says gamers without Internet can stick with Xbox 360

Well 60% of Australians have broadband. I.e. 40% do not have the minimum requirements for an XBone. PS4 on the other hand has no such restriction and can therefore be used by 100% of the market.

Approximately 37% of USA residents do not have broadband as of Aug 2012. Again, close to 40% of the market excluded from being able to use an XBone.

Who exactly did the market research for this?
I'm not defending Microsoft, but you also have to consider, how many of those 40% of people would have even bought an Xbox even if it were offline-compatible? Most people who don't have broadband are probably elders or people who are too poor to afford an Xbox anyway, or just don't care about video games. Sure there will be some people and scenarios that are legit, but you can't 100% of the people no matter what you do.

The 24-hour check in is just a means to control what people can and cannot do on the Xbox One. If you're fine with it, then I wouldn't be sorry when the news of more stiffer control schemes are introduced. Don't bother complaining later on because it's your fault for accepting this garbage now.

The interviewer should have replied, "or they could just go out and buy a PS4..."

lol , big time.

I was planning on getting a xbox1 , I'm going to get a PS4 instead unless there's some big changes, all my friends are the exact same as we all plan on getting the same console. I really think PS4 has gained an enermous amount of new buyers since E3.

Microsoft, what is the deal?! I was a somewhat fanboy of both Windows AND Xbox. Never even thought about purchasing a PS3. I thought there was some kind of strategy behind Windows8 in the way Coke came out with "New coke" then released Classic to rave reviews. But now XBOX1 too?

You guys have lost me. Even "IF" the restrictions are rolled back on this thing, im going with PS4. Just the sheer arrogance in expecting people to put up with this is beyond comprehension.

You sir are incredibly misinformed. The 40% of ppl that do not have Broadband access are NOT elderly and poor ppl. It is VERY arrogant of you to post a statement such as that. The 40% are not poor, they just live in areas that DO NOT HAVE BROADBAND!!!! Unless you have ever lived in such a area you really shouldnt say things like that. Its not because they can not afford a X360 or PS3. Its because in lots of rural areas the infrastructure is not setup for cellular services or broadband access. Oh sure, they CAN get dialup, but be realistic, how long did it take to download a simple 1gb attachment on dialup? Let alone attempt to play a game online. Not everyone lives in a metro area, not everyone lives in a city. There are giant chunks of the US where there is a little town of 20-30k ppl and they dont even have a stop light. No movie theaters, Best Buy, ect. SO to stereotype a group of ppl who do not have the same facilities as you do as "poor" simply goes to show that you still have a lot of living AND learning to do. Because your statement goes to show how ignorant you truly are. Its offensive and hurtful to those ppl.

How would you know unless you did market research? The first 2 people I know with PS3s run them offline. They actually have broadband but they don't want to run their consoles online. They treat them as, wait for it, an offline device because they don't want to run them online.

Have a wild guess which console they'll be upgrading to and which one they won't consider?

You do realize the majority of poor people are poor because all they do all day is play video games? I live in a poor area, and most people live on Gov't assistance, and play video games all day. BTW most of them don't have internet.

I didn't say all people. Like I also said, Microsoft isn't going to be able to please 100% of the people no matter what they do. I also live in a city of 50K people so it's not that big and everyone I know who owns a console has Internet access. I also know people who live in towns of ~500 people outside the city and they get Internet via satellite which isn't 100% reliable but it is reliable enough that checking in 24 hours wouldn't be an issue.

The bad PR that Microsoft is getting with the Xbox One continues. His statement alone will cause more people to buy a PS4.
OMG I don't know what is exactly happening with Microsoft they are really lost there Mind how they simply tell people if you have 0 access to internet then stick with xbox 360 or by other mean go to the hill and buy a PS4 we don't need you!! am still not believing what am hearing yet and I'll wait more maybe they will be more clear in near future before the console come out!!

The interviewer may be to stupid to figure out what Microsofts long term plan is, but anyone with half a brain can see what their doing:

console must be online.
must have the kinect attached at all times.
applied for patent to use a kinect like device to monitor everything that goes on in your living room!

add that to the fact they have been giving the NSA access to all our data, can you see where we are heading?

It's like Microsoft is purposely trying to alienate any potential buyers. This whole thing reminds me of the Republicans putting forth candidates who have 0 chance of winning, as if they're trying to lose the election.

Der her her Im on a nuclear submarine. why in the world would you alienate customers who dont have constant internet connection. suck my **** microsoft, im not giving you any of my money

If they have upgrade the xbox 360 hardware and cooling problems then call it xbox720 then most of the people would be happy.
