Microsoft introduces more Windows 10 lock screen ads, but removing them is easy

when people don't know the meaning of "ignorant"...
just by saying that they are charging you proves that...
oh, who the hell cares if someone misinformed doesn't want to upgrade. good for you dude.

Seriously go Troll someone else, I'm not interested in discussing with you anymore, or ever again for that matter.

Just install and run SpyBot Anti-Beacon. It turns off all telemetry so your OS does not talk to Microsoft at all. Heck, I can't even go to Bing.com anymore, it blocks it in the host file.

Same here for me. I tell everyone to use SpyBot Anti-Beacon.

"Luckily, disabling the ads is very simple. Simply go to Settings..."

so where's the issue?

The issue is that your seeing ads turned on by default for an operating system that you paid for. You can disable it now but who's to say that you won't be able to in the future or that microsoft won't charge you money in the future? This is Hitler's approach. You take a little of their freedom away at a time and then when they are in your grasp you screw them over as much as possible.

I have never gotten any ads anywhere in windows, only when I go to the internet, and there I use adblockers I scripted myself.
If I want ads, I have to actively seek them out, and sometimes I do when I want to see what's new.

What ads did Hitler show in the showers then? hmmm?

At least you're not overreacting.

I haven't seen any ad and turning off any privacy setting is really easy. Windows 10 is great and stable, I used to have way more problems with the outdated windows 7.

Nothing you say will change my mind, it's your choice to believe what you want to believe. You can call me weird, misinformed, whatever you like, I can care less, I'm not using Windows 10 because of it.

I rest very easy knowing I'm not using Windows 10, but personally I see my OS data-mining my personal data and charging me to do so very stupid indeed, if you don't, well that's your choice to be ignorant.

People like yourself just make it that much easier for Microsoft to do what they do...

Very strange person, are you posting because someone is twisting your arm or threatening you if you do not user Windows 10 or you just going around griping, I cant see the reason to post or give an opinion if you do not intend to use it. !! Get a life !! your as bad as the other weirdo on here who has windows 10 then disables everything why not just get a blank screen the numpty or go Linux.
I personally don't give a monkeys about a static picture on my lock screen that is there for the milliseconds it takes me to login.
People need to get real all the sudden interest in what Microsoft are collecting or not is irrelevant just being born these days and your life history and what you will do in the coming years is out there well before you even pick up a phone or touch a keyboard.
Just posting on here I have had to give them access to god knows what so I can expect to be spammed with another load of junk
just remember sensationalising something is what journalism is all about facts don't really come into it, so sit back take a chill pill and you will see life just glide by.
By the way just incase you might be wondering yes I have Windows 10 on 2 PC's, Surface pro 2, HP laptop, Windows phone10 insider on my Lumia 930 my partners Lumia 735 my grandsons Nokia 625 and we are all very happy apart from me as unfortunately I have a works iPhone 5, but and I say this with all happiness in 2 months all the works Apple phones are being changed to Windows phones in which It will make my life complete.

Look, I'm not saying Windows 10 doesn't collect telemetry, they really do, but the scale you guys are talking about is shear lunacy. Take a look at this article which is actually the author retracting unfounded claims about windows 10 that he never confirmed and simply believed because, well... It's Microsoft so they HAVE to be the bad guys, right?

You cannot have an operating system doing data-mining.

Microsoft got their reputations by cheating from the old days. For example, the Netscape scandal. Now they continue with their tendency. They can't change. So, it's useless to expect something different from a company based on delusion.

Now we have to tolerate this rubbish only because of DirectX 12... not that we are in love with Cortana taking even our voice if we're distracted. Such cheaters! But the end of the MS era will come to an end. It's about time. Till then, patience and disable all their garbage.

The same people that are so against ads are often the same ones wearing printed tee shirts, shoes with big logos on them, a phone with a big logo on the back for all to see, and go eat at places that use giant billboards to advertise and they never see the correlation.

You are afraid of Cortana taking your voice? lol are you also afraid of cameras stealing your soul? :)
What do you think of Amazon's Echo? Pretty darned scary, huh?

The MS' intention is the issue.
Their intention is to give you ads about things you are interested in if you want to see ads about things you are interested in and allow you to turn it off if you are not interested in seeing them.

Actually, that number is probably under 50%, maybe even lower. Windows 10 is actually great once you turn off the telemetry. The only reason not to use it would be very specific programs not working. General computing and gaming will not have these problems 99% of the time. People still on Windows 7 look exactly like the people who were still on XP when 7 dropped. Odd.
There's over 4x more people on Win7 than Win10 (>52% of the whole desktop market vs less than 12%). And all their "specific programs" work. Please clarify what your definition of "odd" is? I certainly think at this stage, it is more odd to lose the ability to run programs I want to run than run Win10 which for most of the market, have not any reason to go there.

What I think is odd is unified apps not working on a platform with over 50% of the market share. Really if you want to fix the mistake made by Win8 and Metro, the new platform would work on legacy OS like WinXP and Win7 (e.g. Dot Net 4.0). Especially considering how poor WinPhone and Windows Tablets are in market share.

Right! Lets compare ads of choice to this BS! And just so we are clear I don't advertise at all. If I do it is by conversation.

Did you notice that your name was never mentioned? I said "often the same people"... not even always.
The ads shown are based on your choices anyways though so your "ads of choice" comment is moot.
It's not about you. You don't even use it.

FYI, you do advertise if you drive a car with a manufacturer's emblem on it, etc. You are just unaware that's what you are doing.

Oh, those emblems aren't for advertising, they're to help identify the car in case it's involved in a hit and run.

To draw a parallel, when your OS boots, it says, "Windows XP", etc,. Same Difference. You car announces its brand in the same way.

Now, should your boot screen say, "eat at Joe's", then you have an entirely different issue. That would be "advertising".

I was speaking about MS only, in my comment.

I paid for Windows 10. Why are they showing me ads then?

I dislike ads being pushed or not being pushed. When they grabbed my money, why do I indirectly have to give them more money with ads?

But this won't change, because they are habituated to act like this with the users. Now they brought another garbage: Xbox exclusive games. So we have to await months while they make money with ith their stupid console. Their offensive behavior goes on and on. In the end they will drown in their own excrement. With 22 years tolerating MS as the alternative is worse, I have had more than enough.

Anyway, this won't change for some time. We have to be patient.

And loving your posts Technician you are clearly a logical person I'm still ROFL over the soul stealing comment :)

Is that really true about the police and logo's I would have thought that would be brand marketing 101 and the side benefit of that yes its easier to see what kinda of car but them actually doing that to benefit the police only a bonus. And I'm sure the police have many other ways to identify a car other than the logo's cause what would you do if they are ripped off on say a stolen car.

BS, there is no law against removing a manufacturers emblem, the license plate is what is used to identify a vehicle.

Here people litterally believe that MS shows them ads cause they "might find it interesting". Such good guys, right? Then they talk about logos on cars and shoes like it's the same thing. MS should be more carefull next time with who they pay to do the shilling.
