Microsoft's YouTube channel was hacked over the weekend, resulting in the removal of all of the company's videos. In its place, the unknown attacker posted videos soliciting subscribers for sponsorships and other fairly innocuous things.

The background on the channel was changed to one that included the title "Predator Cinema" and a message posted saying "I DID NOTHING WRONG I SIMPLY SIGNED INTO MY ACCOUNT THAT I MADE IN 2006 :/" The entire archive of videos were replaced by short clips titled "We are sponsoring!" and "Make us a background to get a Subbox!!!". Another appeared to show a scene from the video game LA Noire, with one character shooting another in the head.

Microsoft confirmed the account has been hacked yesterday afternoon. "We have regained control of the Microsoft channel on YouTube, and we are working to restore all of the original content," a Microsoft representative told Cnet. "We will continue to work with YouTube to ensure safeguards are in place for the future."

The channel has been restored to its original state before the attacks happened.

Sesame Street's YouTube channel was also hacked the previous weekend, replacing its usually family-friendly content with pornographic material. YouTube was quick to respond by taking the channel offline within 22 minutes of the attack.

YouTube refused to comment regarding on either case, but they did say that the removal of the content was in-line with the company's guidelines prohibiting pornographic content. "As always, we remove inappropriate material as soon as we are made aware of it," commented a spokesperson for YouTube.

It is not thought the two incidents are related but it does raise questions regarding the security of corporate partner logins. With Google's two-step login process now available it should be near impossible to crack their credentials, although there is no confirmation that the channels in question were using the newer security measures.
