Ok, so my computer had several viruses, one of which somehow removed Soundmax, and my audio driver. So I reformatted my computer (to get rid of the viruses), and it went pretty smoothly, all except that I require the HDA Audio Bus Driver in order to reinstall Soundmax. I was wondering if anyone can post a link to where I can begin this download, provided it is not a program that repairs all drivers, as I have found those to be inconclusive. I appreciate the help.

Are you running XP SP2?? There's an MS update to load it for SP2 but it comes inside SP3 (which you should be running anyway :) )

No, I'm caught up to SP3, but I still don't have the driver

    List any Problem Devices
    • Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
    • Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
    • If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post
    • On the other hand, if no devices are listed, tell me so
Generate and attach a DirectX report
    • Click Start->Run, enter dxdiag
    • Notice progress in lower left window corner
    • When done, click Save Information button and save to your Desktop
    • In TechSpot window, use the paper clip icon to attach the report. (If you don't see icon you may need to first click Go Advanced)

heh heh... yea, those strings are pretty crytpic if you're not used to reading them :D

    1. Please provide that dxdiag report as well
    2. Frankly, based on those strings, i don't think you have High Def audio! i think you might be trying to install the wrong Soundmax driver
    3. you also have other drivers missing but can address those seperately

    What's your computer make/model?

In response to suggestion 2, I tried the non-HD version and it was a zipfile. i tried starting the setup, but unfortunately, it says that if I removed my audio software, then I need to restart my computer, but I didn't remove anything, and even if i did, I restarted countless times before

I don't know what you tried but i can tell you with virtual certainty you DO NOT HAVE HD AUDIO on that machine!

Other then that, there's not much point in my trying to help if you're not going to provide any more useful information
  11. Hornet871 Newcomer, in training

Well do you know any other audio programs that I can use that don't require an HD audio driver?

No need for the attitude, I really don't know what I'm doing. That's kinda why I'm asking for help. Where can I find the info you need?
  15. LookinAround TechSpot Chancellor Posts: 7,677   +39

OK. but then please read my posts more carefully as i keep asking you for the info i need. if you don't know how then at least tell me so

I provided Instructions to run dxdiag report back within same post as my request for problem devices

and tell me your computer make/model as well if you're still having problems (also asked for back in post #8)

While I run the dxdiag, where can I find the make/model?
  17. LookinAround TechSpot Chancellor Posts: 7,677   +39

if you don't know make/model then just run dxdiag for now. sometimes dxdiag will tell me that too. (Do you have a Dell or HP or do you know who made your computer?)
  18. Hornet871 Newcomer, in training

So I found out that I don't have a sound card. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the sound card the slot on the back of the computer where the speakers plug into? And I have a Dell.
  19. LookinAround TechSpot Chancellor Posts: 7,677   +39

Please provide me that dxdiag report. (if you're reading no sound card found, that message can be misleading) i need to see that report

i'll be back later. You can also look on your dell for the service tag.

You can also try going to the Dell support site HERE, click Drivers and Downloads. Enter your service tag (or is also an option to let Dell try and find it for you). They'll tell you the model number and the drivers

if need be i'll look at the dxdiag report later when back
