Explorer and IE.exe are 2 different things. Explorer is what runs the operating system, for the most part. If explorer crashes you will lose your start bar, etc, until it comes back up. IE.exe is for internet explorer. Please clarify what is going on here.

is IE.exe an old version of Internet Explorer? As far back as I can remember it's always been iexplore.exe . Explorer is just the shell. Did you try installing LiteStep or something recently and have tried removing it since without setting your shell back to explorer?

I guess the OS was pre-installed. Apparently without the IE.
Install it from your Installation disk and get the latest update from the net if neccessary.
You should have called it iexplorer.exe the first time around, that was a bit confusing. ;)

LiteStep is a configurable desktop shell. Never used it myself.
