Mobile phones seem to be being made to do everything these days, from game playing to video conferencing. How about mobile phone TV reception? Well, it looks like its on the cards. Five of the world's leading mobile phone makers are collaborating on specifications to deliver broadcast services to wireless handsets: Motorola, NEC, Nokia, Siemens, and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications are working on a mobile phone TV reception solution.

"We aim to agree on specifications that enable mobile broadcast services, such as how consumers find and receive broadcast content on their terminals and how they pay for it." - Nokia.

Of course, completely new handsets will be necessary, and things won't kick off until next year at the earliest, but this technology is on its way.

<sarcasm>That's just the thing that was missing from my life, the ability to watch reality tv on my phone's 2" screen so I don't miss one minute of which ***** gets booted from the island this week</sarcasm>

Maybe soon the TV shows will be about the world through the camera lense of some 3G mobile phone.
