modem issues

Ok i currently have a stock modem from my isp. And its really giving me problems so my question is can i goto a store and buy a modem without it being one from my internet provider? i have dsl not cable

Yes and no..

Are you sure it is your modem that is causing problems? Maybe you should have your ISP replace it or fix whatever is wrong?

Is it actually just a modem or a modem+router+whatever combo device?
