Modem problem

my desktop PC Robotics 56k faxwin modem was workin fine till yesterday.

Today it is trying to dial but after repeated attemps it gives up with a message
"No dial tone".

I connected a phone to the incoming line into the computer. It does have a dial tone.

Is it time for a new modem or a new phone company?

You could try reseating the modem card, that is, physically remove it and reinsert it just to make sure it didn't come loose somehow. If that doesn't work, I would consider an new modem.
