Monitor goes black when playing games

Ok, so just recently, when I start any game (whether it be CS:S or Guild Wars) my monitor goes black but you can still hear the game sound. I've never had this problem with my computer before and it has just started recently. My hardrive is still spinning so it's not like it is crashing so I have no idea. It just recently stopped going black for CS:S (Counter-Strike:Source on Steam) but now it does it for Guild Wars (MMO/RPG) so I'm really confused. My monitor is find doing everything else and never have experienced this problem doing anything else on computer. Any ideas?

I'd say it's your graphics card failing or possibly the power supply getting weak.

Ok, could it also be my hardrive?

could be the graphics card, psu, hd, mobo. check the drivers and temps for your card.

what's more is maybe using a registry edit program to fix any registry errors. although those mostly cause the blue screens of death.
