Monitor has colorful pixels flashing. Virus or kaput ?

  1. This is the first time I've seen a screen colourful & flashing like a bizzare modern art.

And there was non-stop hdd activity.

Had to uninstall & re-install the video drivers twice.

Is it a PC malfunction or some virus/malaware ?

I don't know if it's malware or not, because it sounds more like a bad monitor or video card. However, the hard drive bit is strange.

Please go and read this and then post a HijackThis log as an attachment into this thread.

    Regards :)

    Hjt

There seems to be no recurrence of the problem.

I did scan with avg free, ad_aware & spybot (can't use much else on Win 98).
    No problems were detected.

I have bad feeling that video card or monitor is nearing its end.

    I have posted a HJT.

    Your HijackThis log is clean.

I don't know what the problem is, but it's definitely not malware. Try updating your video card drivers. Do you have another monitor to try in it? You can get CRT monitors to test with for probably $5 or less.

I'm pretty sure it's monitor or video card though.
