Monitor works for 10 seconds then goes black

    Anybody know what would make a monitor display for 10 seconds and then go black?
    I can shut it off...turn back on and it displays again for 10 seconds and goes blank.
    I have changed out cables. tried on several machines, and outputs, same result.
    any help would be appreciated.
