More than half of US employees don't use all their vacation time, partly due to remote...

That's usually because those posters who knock it are from socialist countries such as the EU, Canada, Australia, NZ, etc ..
I think that is a good point to a degree, but honestly, they keep preaching about "relaxation and living life" while they can't seem to grasp our view being how therapeutic and satisfying we see it as far as getting things done, and just the good vibes gained from accomplishment in the professional part of life.

It's not like we don't take time to break away. It's just that I believe that as a whole, we believe in a working, professional priority.

I had a colleague who was working remotely, changing his location every two weeks. He visited all the exotic countries, like he was on a constant vacation. Now, normally that's not as much fun as it sounds. Because if you have to work, you don't have enough time to party. And if you party too much, you are too tired to work.

His solution was to be almost unnoticeable. His contribution was low, nobody really even expected anything from him, so he was receiving salary, traveling around and enjoying. But not many people can pull it off.

WOW! How European!

But a lot of people that actually want to do good work from home get up, drive to a coffee shop or restaurant for breakfast or just something to go, then drive back home. Then at the end of the day they go get some groceries, gas, or just take a short relaxing drive.

It is said it does well for the internal clocks!

Relaxing extends life. That's why Italians and Spaniards live long, even though they eat meat, cheese, white bread, drink alcohol..... and still keep their health.

Actually, I'm pretty sure they both have 6-9 year longer life expectancy because of diet, and mostly because they don't have to worry about paying for a medical procedure that can save their lives. They just show up and get treated.

As far as diet, I think it's kind of like Asians. Their food is extremely salty, but they don't stuff themselves every time they eat.

Lastly, if you consider the benefits of Olive Oil on the Mediterranean population, then living longer just for that makes sense.

"...in Europe, where workers usually get more than the 15 - 20 average paid days off that US employees receive - and feel less guilty about using them. "

That^ is 120~160 hours of vacation time. !!!!!!!

In the US, I know people who have been working at their same job for 8-9 years and still don't have enough time for 10 Vacation days a year. I know people who have 15 years in a Company, that only have 120h/year of Vacation time.... & when they get 20 years, they receive another 40hours...

And yet Europeans "on average" get 15-20 more paid days off than US employees receive.... you must really think on that^ for a long time to understand the ramifications of daily living.
