thats bad news... i think ur HDD is not the problem... but let me tell u, have u tried codec pack? there may be some conflicting programs running together...

anyway, i cant figure out, after change my motherboard and fresh installation of windows xp, i have slight stuttering when 'jumping' in Full HD videos. previous motherboard doesnt suffer from this even though it is older. i guess im out-of-luck too.

I downloaded codecs but i'm still having the problem. When I run iTunes in Windows 7 the playback is much choppier than XP, if that helps anyone.

My kids was doing the same thing. On an ASUS mobo. I uninstalled all the sound drivers. Went to the ASUS web site and downloaded the sound drivers for Vista. Then went to the Realtek site and upgraded to the Win 7 drivers. Problem solved. Even though the HD control window is the same, features like OTS surround were missing when downloading directly from Realtek. unfortunately, unlike your problem, XP wasn't having issues, and this was a Win7 x64 install.

This may help

I've had the exact same problem with choppy music while using Firefox 3.5 & WMP 11 & I noticed that my cpu cycles will temporarily max out at 100% when I open a link to a photo or webpage after having browsed the web for a couple hours. After the page or photo d/l's, the music then goes back to normal. I tried new audio drivers & other browsers but they didn't help. One thing that has helped me though is going into the task manager & setting the cpu priority to "high" for WMP. I also right clicked on Firefox & reduced it's affinity by unchecking one of the 2 cpu cores. This has solved the choppiness problem for me but it does slow down browsing & typing online forms (such as this one) somewhat. So it's not the cure but it at least helps. The only thing is, you need a dual or muti-core cpu to make this work.
