My computer turns on but it won't work

I left my computer on one day and when i came home it was off and would turn on and everything but the monitor acted like nothing was connected to it. So my computer does turn on but nothing shows up on the monitor and the mouse and keyboard and anything else i connect to it dont turn on either but the lights and fans in the actual computer work just fine. I'm very computer stupid so I have no idea how to fix it and was wondering if anyone here can tell me how. I have an emachines W-3050 series that runs Windows XP. I never removed or added anything to it except the wireless linksys router card so it has whatever it did when I bought it.

But try this:

Remove the power and monitor cord from the back (monitor connection if a PC)
Remove the battery (for laptops) as well
Hold the ON button in for 30 secs
Put the Power and Monitor back
Turn On
