What is brand and model of computer.
Generally, everything you need will be found at the manufacturer's web site... BIOS, Chipset, audio drivers, video graphics drivers.... then look at all the other drivers with a release date after your computer was built.

Well first what are you trying to record, is it recording through the Microphone that you are trying to do or are you trying to record sound through your speakers like music or something?

If you are trying to record through the mic, you may have it turned off or you may not have any drivers for it, if it turned off you can go the the speaker sign at the bottom right of you screen and right-click and click on recording devices or properties, then look for you mic and make sure it is enabled.
If it isnt that you may need new drivers where you can find them on the manufacturers site.

Hope this helps, if not please reply and ill try to give more advice.
