My LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4081B won't read cds.. but it will burn them (but sometimes acts up when burning)

I've tried the only things i can think of, updating the drivers and reinstalling the drive, but to no avail. It just says please insert disk when i try to open it up through my computer.

I don't know if it has anything to do with it.. but a couple of months ago my hard drive crashed and i had to get a new one, but the drive worked fine for a while and has only recently been acting up.

pleeeeease help me

Turn off your Anti-Virus Program and anything else that's running on the system in the background. Shutdown screensaver also. Try it again? If it fails to read the CDs that is burns then you got a problem with the drive itself. If it fails to burn the CDs the same issue.

Oh then you might have issues with the onboard IDE1 and IDE2 controller this is what controls the HDD and CD, DVD burners. If that goes bad then best bet would be to replace the MOBO (motherboard).

How old is the system you have there in question?

Are you useing any different settings then in 2004 ?
Or Software ?
They are known to have short lives, but try updateing the Firmware.
It fixed my brand new Sony to read discs.
At todays prices and if expired warranty , get a new one.
