My DVD writer - Pioneer DVDRW making noises when not in use!

You know how you insert to watch a movie or to burn something, you get the typical dvd writer noise when it's in use? Yes, I've been having this problem when I'm NOT using it.. I'm constantly hearing that noise as if it's being used, I open my case and realised nothing was inserted or anything! I'm starting to think there's something wrong.

Anyone could tell me what is the problem?

Pull the power plug on the Pioneer just to make sure it is the cause of the noise. Then remove it in the Device Manager, and let Windows reinstall it. If it still makes noise, budget for a new burner
