Editor's take: President Joe Biden will help NASA unveil one of the first images from the James Webb Space Telescope, and it is taking place one day ahead of schedule. It'd be easy to come to any number of conclusions about today's event based on the lens through which it is viewed, but it'd probably be best to just enjoy the historical occasion for what it is.

Update: Here's the first image with more to come...

NASA and eager enthusiasts have been waiting a long time for this day. Planning for the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope started in the early 1990s. After what seemed like countless delays and budget overruns, Webb finally launched into space on Christmas Day 2021 and spent the next month traveling to its orbit spot roughly a million miles away from Earth.

Some might view Biden's involvement as a PR stunt to boost approval ratings. Others could be miffed that NASA isn't sticking with its original release schedule or view it as a sign of the times (instant gratification). Venturing even further into the realm of unlikely, it's plausible that Webb found something truly groundbreaking and it needs to be addressed independently of the other observations due out tomorrow.

Whatever the case, all we know at this point is that it's happening later today at 5 p.m. Eastern. Biden will share one of Webb's first images as part of a preview event at the White House. The event will be streamed live on NASA TV, and agency administrator Bill Nelson will provide remarks.

The image in question is being referred to as "Webb's First Deep Field" and will reveal the deepest and highest-resolution look yet of our universe.

Oh boy, this should be great. "Here's the first picture...uu...of the thing in space that I. Hey you know, I wasn't real sure about Skylab but it cut through the pistachio better than a Chinese donkey. God Bless Ukraine!"

I still want to see the NASA sign up that indicates what research activities are being conducted by what person/organization. They had one (still have one) for Hubble .....

Joe will say he remembers when these stars were just babies.
And will say something like "end quote" repeat last line.
I wonder if that is worse than covfefe, even if spoken from Yo-sa-mite of the United shashes, or even Thighland. :D

Ok seriously. It's not fair to complain about where you are and not remember where you have been.

You honestly think everybody who is critical of Biden is MAGA?
And that is why I love being a Democrat, though just a slightly left of center one. Some of Biden's most critical people are from the left. We know what stinks, and we don't care if it's one of our own. He can do a lot of positive things, but Afghanistan, for example, will still be in the back of our minds.

The right fawns over their representatives to the point of slave like submission and tosses out everything they know about what's right and wrong. Even on those rare occasions when they know they are being lied to.

For example, I can promise you that 99% of the righties who complain about the "stolen election" know damn well it's bullshit.

There are plenty of people on both the right and left who do what you describe, and plenty who do not. I lean right, but have never ever been a fan of Trump. And I have encountered countless people who would support Biden/Trump to the end just because of party.

So then I ask. You lean right, I lean left.

Why does it seem to be such a big problem (I don't mean you) for people like us to join up and put a muzzle on the nut cases on both sides?

That would be nice in theory... but I don't think muzzles are ever the right solution. If only people would vote for principle rather than voting out of fear that the "other side's" crazy person might win. I didn't vote for Donald. I didn't vote for Hillary, I didn't vote for Joe. People know there are far better candidates, but they are too afraid to vote for them, especially these days. Most voters vote against candidates. Not for them. Not any more.

Oh, good God - it's all Biden can do to poop every few days. Whoever/whatever is controlling him was the participant here, and everyone knows it.
Next story.
