  1. so this weekend after comming home from work i find that my son has downloaded something and after he opened it it restarted the computer. upon booting up it said the following file has not been found or is corrupted or something like that. the file is called hal.dll and the computer can no longer boot up.

i tried booting up and setting the boot sequence so that the cd rom boots first and i tried booting from a usb and even thought the dvd drive i had was the problem and wouldnt read the cd so i bought another one today. after all that i get the same error. DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.

anyone have any solution to this problem?

If you look in the BIOS, can you see the hard drive and the DVD drive listed?
Guess they must be there as otherwise you should not be able to modify the boot priority...
You could also go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314477 and read the notes there about restoring hal.dll
