I wanted to buy a new cpu for my motherboard....

Can my Abit AN52S support Amd Athlon II cpu because I saw at the Daily Tech that AMD say that they AM3 CPU will be backward compatible with Socket AM2 motherboard....

Is this true and can I just try to put the Amd Athlon II and will it works??

Sometimes true... but you may find a big anomaly between the X2 and X3. Weird things can happen. Go to the motherboard manufacturer's web site to see if both X3 and X2 are supported. Remember, you have chipset software to worry about as well.

I presume you're looking at the Athlon II X2 or X4. I don't think the X3 exists under the Athlon II architecture. Just check the motherboard manufacturer's website and determine whether your motherboard supports the particular CPU you are interested in. You may have to update your BIOS to make the CPU work.
