No, reboot should just restart everything. now follow CCT's instructions (and will add a couple)
    1. Go into Control Panel Add/Remove and remove and Sound programs from any vendor
    2. Device Manager Uninstall any drivers on the sound card
    3. Download the audio driver from Sis Support site for the 7012 sound card
    4. That download may or may not to an install (it probably will)
    5. Regardless, do a reboot and generate the Everest Report as requested

    /************* EDIT ***********************/
"In theory", Windows should select the best drivers out of the choices it sees. So downloading the Sis 71012 and making it one of the choices should (would think) have Windows inclined to use it first (sometimes it screws-up but we can fix that after the fact should that be the case)

so what u want me to do is delete any audio program on add/remove program

and then uninstall all the sound drivers on the sound card using device manager

then download the sis support thing

    then reboot
how do you reboot without deleteing everything ?
  3. LookinAround TechSpot Chancellor Posts: 7,677   +39

    1. Uninstalling a driver does just that. Uninstall. The driver isn't actually deleted ( <= and that's a mixed blessing!!)

    2. From what u described, you haven't paid for a special sound software package, correct? So every sound program in Add/Remove will be deleted (yes, those are deleted) but those are all the standard sound controller apps that are actually packed in with those drivers.

So unless you have something you paid for and no CD or anything.. and doesn't sound like it.. everything should reinstall and reboot will should be fine

i dont get what you mean by reboot do i put the windows cd inside and reboot or is there something elses
  5. LookinAround TechSpot Chancellor Posts: 7,677   +39

no, when you're done with the other steps. No CD in the drawer.

Reboot just means to go through a normal shutdown as you do when done with the machine. And the start it all back up (that startup includes Windows "booting" back up so terms are often loosely interchanged)

    1) OK... I see your Everest post tho you don't indicate if things are working again or not?

    2) If you still have a problem could you please
    click Start->Run, enter msinfo32

When it starts click the + sign to expand components, then Problem Devices. Anything listed there? If yes, please copy into a post

OK. Look in your computer for this file C:\Windows\setupapi.log. Then attach the file to a post back here. Attach please. In TechSpot do an Avanced Reply and click the paper clip icon to attach files.

Also, if you would, click Start->Run, enter dxdiag when it's done, (look lower left corner for progress) click the Save Information button. Then save the file it creates and also attach.

I don't have time to got thru those right away (probably till later this eve (only 11am here) but promise will check backj on thread to see if any progress been made

    setupapi.log:
Your file of 338.7 KB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 200.0 KB for this filetype.

too many kb wat shall i do
  13. LookinAround TechSpot Chancellor Posts: 7,677   +39

You can open it with notepad. Start->Run, enter notepad

You'll see data being collected for ages. Each new date begins with [

Most recent dates are at the bottom

So go to end of file, click edit->find have it search for [ and be sure the Direction is checked to search Up... This way you can find and just give me the last couple days worth of data and i wouldn't look at rest

Save the orginal tho in case we do want more later
  14. john2009 Newcomer, in training Posts: 23

    still to manykb

  16. LookinAround TechSpot Chancellor Posts: 7,677   +39

    try it in notepad.

you're using setupapi.log? in C:\Windows? it should work for either actually

    or rename it.

then inuninstall any sound devices and reinstall and should generate a new one tho only smaller since only today's data.
  17. LookinAround TechSpot Chancellor Posts: 7,677   +39

and who knows you may tell Word something special as it's a .log file

    again use other solutions

or change file extentsion to .txt if you want try word again
