I am trying to burn a CD on Nero and it keeps giving me an error that says "writer error"......this did not happen before, so i'm a little confused. Can anyone help me please, thanks. Welcome to TechSpot You need to turn DMA on on that drive. To do that, right-click My Computer on the desktop, select Properties, Hardware tab, Device Manager. Doubleclick on "Secondary IDE Channel" on "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers", then Advanced Settings tab. Set the "Transfer Mode" to "DMA if available". See the attached image for more help.
I tried that, and it was already set to "DMA if available". Then i tried burning the CD again and the same problem occured. here's the error log: ahennawi company 1A20-****-****-****-****-**** Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\PROGRA~1\Ahead\nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.59, size=160016 bytes, created 12/16/2003 5:18:06 PM Nero version: 6.3.1.17 (Nero Express) Recorder: <AOPEN DUW1608/ARR> Version: A04b - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.3.1.17 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <AOPEN DUW1608/ARR >Version: A04b - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.3.1.17 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : WDC WD800EB-11DJF0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : AOPEN DUW1608/ARR atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : JLMS XJ-HD166S atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === AOPEN DUW1608/ARR E: CDRom0 JLMS XJ-HD166S F: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 83886080 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 759MB (777752kB) Free physical memory: 48MB (50168kB) Memory in use : 93 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Static Write Speed Table: 0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 3.9.2005 Audio CD 11:27:29 PM #1 CDADOC -1 File Cdadoc.cpp, Line 1508 Audio item log info: Audio document burn settings: ============================= Burn mode: DAO,
Usually if a Writer was working and then stops. It may simpy be some needed maintenance.Clean the read heads. Also check the status of your Temp file(Delete contents) that stores the Buffer, it may need to be emptied.Check the availible Disk free space. Defrag your partitions. If you changed media brands that can be an issue,so you could go back to the old brand ,update firmware ,update Nero. I am not sure about this ,but your error message shows a free memory level of 45 Mb . that is not much memory .You may have too many background Apps open. To test turn off all extraneous programs in Task Manager including Screen savers etc. then try another burn.
